Generally speaking, a hospital must inform and obtain patient consent prior to administering any medication or performing any medical procedures.
That said, there are certain scenarios where patient consent is not required such as medical emergencies where immediate care or intervention is required.
It is difficult to imagine that you were hospitalized, and a procedure was performed on you without the hospital or doctors having obtained consent.
Nonetheless, if that is the case, you may take the legal route and explore your options regarding payment and holding the hospital liable for failure to obtain consent.
